studiomux 5 beta

Hi Pascal,

the current studiomux app 5.088 provides everything I need at the moment and is stable enough that I will risk to use it in a concert in August. But the test period will expire a few days before the concert. I am a bit worried about that.
Would it be possible to reset the test period now? Because – if you are making an update during the next few weeks (hopefully, of course), and there are any problems, then I could roll back to this version, as a safety option.
Thanks!

It may not be an SMUX issue…
I always test new releases of SMUX with Animoog IAA and the iPadOS version displays high latency.
The iOS app version of Animoog is installed side-by-side on the iPad and it works as expected. Go figure…

update to my previous post:
I saw, that you are planning to release studiomux on 1st of August, that would be perfect!

Hi,

i will return to Germany on Friday and upload a new beta (no changes to the current version, just some UI stuff).

Sorry i cannot upload a new one at the moment. My hotels internet is that bad, that i took ages to load this site. (max 16kbs up/down)

ok, this is also perfect, thank you!

I just started using the StudioMux 5 beta on my iPad 6 (iOS 13.7) and MacBook Pro (running High Sierra and Ableton Live 10). I have mostly been having good luck. I am running into a problem which is that TH-U Overloud is not showing up in the list of Audio Effects.

It looks like those audio effects listed as “music effects” (audio au’s that can use MIDI input) are not listed.

I hope that you will add direct support of Music Effect AUs. I can workaround it by using AUM with StudioMux but I would love to not have to do that as it adds to processor load and latency.

I am enjoying the beta and having a generally good experience. One thing I am running into is that if I send MIDI from my Mac to my iPad via StudioMux, I am successful in getting the MIDI to plug-ins hosted in AUM but not to the same synths hosted in the StudioMux iPad app itself. One thing I notice is that in the StudioMux app, in the Keyboard ‘source’ popup, None is the only remote source option.

I am running iOS 13.7.

Is there something I need to do to get the host app to route the MIDI to the synths it is hosting?

Windows 10 latest. Studiomux beta and server latest. iPhone 12 Pro.

  1. The UI is pretty bad and almost unusable on a phone, from not respecting the notch so that things aren’t visible/readable, to just things collapsing in on themselves from being squished. The plugins aren’t really editable because they are cut off or squished down to an unusable size. I don’t have an iPad. I have an iPhone.

  2. Instrument plugin works great in the latest Studio One and Tracktion Waveform Pro. However, the effect plugin doesn’t work at all in either - no audio whatsoever. It’s possible I set it up incorrectly, thinking that you chose the channel, like Channel 1 in smux as the input and output, and add an effect in the middle. No audio at all when I do that in either DAW.

Hi,

thanks for the feedback, we will test it with TH-U and try to integrate it.

It should be possible to send MIDI directly through the Plugins.

working on the iphone version …

i will test the Plugins with studio on this week. in Live it works fine.

Pascal,

Based on your response, I think something is wrong (at least on iOS 13.7) in routing MIDI from remote mac to AUv3 synth hosted in StudioMux. Works fine routing from StudioMux to AUM though.

Hi,

do you send audio via the studiomux Plugin or via MIDI port and let me know, which AUv3 you tested, i will try to reporduce the issue.

The next beta will list music_effects.

Great to hear that music effects will be listed.

In the StudioMux host app, i loaded a synth (I tried several. I am pretty sure the synth was irrelevantl). I could play them with the StudioMux host’s onscreen keyboard, but the popup that listed note sources listed nothing for remote. So there was no way to choose remote MIDI.

Hi @Pascal, Hope you had a nice holiday
Beta 5.097 on Windows is the most stable yet…great news…thanks, random crashing in both the app & Ableton 11 seems to be fixed…
It’s still only possible for Ableton to see two Studiomux channels, not a problem for me as i rarely record more than two in one pass, but no doubt other people will need this to work upon release …just a heads up in case you hadn’t noticed…
Thanks for all the work the team are putting into getting it released , lets hope ios 15 dosn’t break it again!!!

Hi Pascal,

did you already upload a new app version? There are only 13 days left in TestFlight for the current version 5.088

Hi,

just released it. Unfortunately, you have to manually release beta now. And i forgot to push the button.

Great, thank you! I made only a quick test now and it seems to work perfect.

Latest Test Flight seems to have fixed channels not loading. Win 10 Ableton 11.05…

Installed latest server and app from testflight.

All of my AUv3 synths and effects no longer are accessible in Studiomux - it just flat out says there aren’t any. Something is clearly wrong there, since I have many! IAA synths work fine. Effects of any type don’t work at all.

Try a soft reset…

That worked! Well, I updated the OS with the latest, which restarted the phone of course. I opened studiomux and all the AUs are back. Whew. The effects still don’t work, but at least all the software is showing up now.
