studiomux 5 beta

Something’s fishy with the audio units.

Two AUs install: one instrument, one effect.

In Logic Pro X’s Plugin Manager only one registers.

On instrument channel strips there is not any selectable ‘Zdbg’ device.

Some Zdbg thing is selectable as an audio effect and that looks like an instrument plugin but it doesn’t carry audio from the iOS device.

Also…Big Sur…

No audio stream coming to VST3 plug-in from iOS device. Midi is passing to iOS app successfully but can hear audio from iOS device only.

On Win10 (x64 20H2 build 19042.746 - without iTunes install), ‘studiomux_5.28.exe’ will install, but after starting (running as administrator), only stays visible in the system tray until a mouse-over event. Then it disappears. Changed firewall permissions, allowing for private and public networks. Temporarily disabled app and browser control security, same result.

Request a link to iTunes 12.10.79. On ‘Previous versions of iTunes’ (https://support.apple.com/downloads/itunes) 12.10.10 appears to be newest version. The current non-microsoft store version (https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/win64) appears to be 12.11.0.26. Am I safe to use either of those?

I installed iTunes 12.10.10, since the newer one (12.11.0.26) I’m assuming doesn’t work with this. Rebooted. Double -checked firewall, enabled bonjour (showing 2 Bonjours on there (32 & 64bit maybe?)) for public and private networks. Studiomux enabled for public and private. Started studiomuxServer.exe as admin, same result. Disappears on mouse-over. Opened 5028.log:
2021-02-06 09:19:51 [10188] INFO LoadUsbLibraries

Any suggestions?

The new server v.5028 seems to work quite well. I tried AU plugins, instrument and effect on MacOS 10.14 and Logic 10.5.1. No burst of audio on connection any more.
Restarting the computer after installation was needed. I am mentioning this here only, because I forgot to do this first.
Audio and Midi still only in one direction. Are they supposed to work in both directions?
@Pascal – could you please comment this?
If we know, that one-way Audio and Midi is the current state of the development, this is fine. I think, we are all grateful for every step in the progress, and it is promising!
By the way, Testflight version on iOS is still 5.025?

12.10.79 was recommended by Pascal in a recent post about Touchable Pro, but i used 12.10.8.5 & it worked just as well. I am unsure if there are any differences. Maybe @Pascal could could give more information.

iso, thanks!

I did find iTunes 12.10.7.3 here (https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6562), and it works! Successfully running studiomux server in Renoise 3.3.1 using Moog Model D as auv3! Very nice to have this back…

Interesting. I had Model D on the input of channel one, and ‘Neufrauhofen’ as the output (Ipad Air 2, 14.4), and the Renoise Studiomux GUI checkboxes unchecked, but with the listboxes selected for device and channel. Playing the keyboard in studiomux, the audio came in awesome in Renoise! Then I had to take care of something, and Windows logged itself out probably for an update or something. When I logged back in, the audio was severely distorted. Closed Renoise, and unloaded Model D, unloaded the output, then closed studiomux. Still got the same audio issue when reloading all. Closed all, re-booted ipad. Loaded same config in both studiomux and Renoise and Renoise threw an error message: "Ouch. The VST plugin ‘zerodebug: Studiomuxinstrument (from zerodebug)’ crashed in event, function, or class: ‘Process’. Thread: ‘AUDIO Slaves’ " right after attempting to load the plugin.

Installed Mac Server 5.0.28, re-started the MBP as suggested but the audio no longer worked as before - something has been broken since the last update…

5.0.28 has rectified the issue I mentioned a couple of days ago (on Big Sur). I wasn’t aware the server had been updated. It’s hard to beta test when you don’t get any notifications of new server releases!

Anyway, I’ve had quite a few issues with Smux iOS app crashes today.

I agree. There have been two sever releases since i last looked. I had assumed any updates to the sever would be posted here. Needs to be more organized. Maybe Pascal could post a sticky or something, with server updates in it…

Anyway…latest ( 5.0.28 ) has fixed the audio overload on win 10 in Ableton & the audio is less distorted than before, so a step forward in that direction , but now Ableton is crashing when i add an instrument in the app. Will test further to see if i can resolve it…

Also VST3’s now installing correctly.

Just took 5.0.28 for another quick spin .This seems like a really long, long way from being a working build. Very unstable, crashing Ableton in many & varied ways. Audio overload, freezing Ableton, server seeing two USB ports when there is only one…this is too far away to test, other than to say it’s completely broken.

On a more positive note, the app itself seems stable on my iPad Air 3 ( 14.4 )

Hi, just tested the new server with the new app on Big Sur intel and iPad 2 air.
the au in logic crashes randomly if you remove it from a channel …or if you remove it and load it again…as well if you change something in the GUI sometimes… the latency is big…not THAT big, but not usable if you really want to use it as a plugin for a track…audio also is glitchy…mostly in the release time, but better than the builds before. the audio-driver changes inside the app don’t have a real impact on what’s going on… the latency varies , is not stable. if I use buffer size 256 in logic and studiomux its no difference to 512 in both. also if I mix the settings…same results… random latency and audio glitches.

what’s also a bit irritating all the time : the 44.000 sampling rate, but I guess its meant 44.1 kHz

but for me it was the best build yet. im curious how the audio driver would work

Sample buffer in the ios app is always checked twice at startup: 128 and 512…would prefer if it were always where I last left it.

Also, often there are 2 sample rates selected: 44.1 and 48kHz simultaneously…

The Test Flight app just updated itself to 5.028 on my iPad, so previous tests were performed on an out of date build.
All much more stable in Ableton & sever only reporting 1 USB device which is correct. Audio is still distorted, & midi doesn’t seem to be working. Selection of Buffer size & Sample rate still seems screwed up in the app. Also no way to stop the app from loading the last session.

A step in the right direction! :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m getting different behavior across devices/OSes…

Big Sur hates Smux…cashed Live 10 four times an hour ago…
Catalina seems more or less stable…

Test Flight app updated also, so this is clear for me now.
Buffersize in iOS app also checked twice, 128 and 512. While I can select 128 or 256, when selecting 512 I get a warning: Buffersize could not be reset. We recommend to close all Apps or restart the iPad.
Occurs even when no other apps are running. On the other hand, if I launch AUM afterwards, I am able to select any samplerate or buffersize in AUM. There I would expect a warning, because the first running audio app usually determines samplerate and buffersize for all others. So it seems, that changing settings in studiomux does not do anything.
Nevertheless I am always happy about the progress in each version.

  1. Still does not list Remote midi ports in updated iPad app
  2. VST3 app has empty dropdown boxes for inputs and outputs
  3. iPad Studiomix app has both 44100 and 48000 selected (Ableton PC is 44100, iPad is 48000 and probably cannot be changed)

Studiomix connects and reportrs active connections properly. Other Ableton Link apps are working. Touchable Pro is also working. Lemur iPad is working and Audiobus/AUM is working.

I hope you guys get this studiomux right. I hope 5 really makes things work. full screen apps in studiomux please! To get midi commands sent from a controller to an ipad app I have to put a midi cc plugin in front of the studiomux vst on the track. Why? dont know but thats what I have to do.

Also in version 4 i tried to load a Drambo preset after loading everything up and Studiomux crashed.

Hi, connection is fine with my iPad air 4 in Bitwig (Pc), but it looks like the audio is severely distorted (sounds like a siren)… Midi is passing through which is good but audio cannot be used at all.
